Ads growing up in the 90's

The world of ads has always been obnoxious and irritating.

Remember watching a film or series on TV with your family? You were engrossed in the story, until that enjoyment was interrupted by blaring ads breaking through the program you were watching, Much louder and brighter, trying to convince you to buy some brand-new, revolutionary product meant to cut down your cleaning time by half, or cure your back pains, or feed you toxic calories you didn’t need and whatever else was on TV back then.

And those loud, obnoxious ads would continue, on repeat, for at least a good fifteen minutes, until you were so brainwashed, you forgot you were trying to have fun. Resisting the urge to either let your eyes wander to the ads, to remember the product being advertised, and the constant effort of fighting off the command prompts transmitted by those ads was always an eye-rolling exercise.

It became understood that watching a TV program meant being bombarded with ads. But that’s not originally what anyone sighed for: what you originally did sign up for, was watching that bloody program. Ultimately, I’m one of those people who quit watching TV as early as possible, and I don’t even own a monitor…
