Why We Should Stop Glamorizing Morbid Obesity

Instead, acknowledge the emotional reasons that cause obesity

We should be trying to dig to the root of obesity and publicly discuss it — it’s so much pain and internal fractures. But instead, this body positivity movement has swung the pendulum to the other extreme, where, once “skinny” was praised, now it’s obesity that is pushed forward. In all this, there’s very little talk of the emotional factors that cause obesity, the pain that we need to focus on to heal it.

Like everybody else, I saw this cover of Cosmopolitan when it came out. In my opinion, it summarizes everything that is wrong with the body positivity movement and what it should actually be about, rather than what it’s become.

— All the (emotional) reasons why you’re fat

No one talks about it as publicly, as what is put at the forefront of the movement, is fatness and being overweight. This movement came to life because of all the emotional backlash we all received for being fat or overweight.

Here’s the thing. Being fat isn’t fun. It’s not and has never been the natural state of the human body, no matter what claims people nowadays parade to force their agenda on others. But between a terrible food culture and emotional issues…
