The idea that buying physical items doesn't bring lasting happiness is outdated, and has a flaw in its logic. It assumes that people only buy finite things that'll last a year, eventually two, and end up "in the land field", as you put it.

But purchasing quality things that can last you from a decade to several is a rewarding spending that is worth the investment. And it does lead to happiness.

Conversely, spending money on building memories is actually rather ephemeral, while items that last a long time are always there. Memories fade, moments fade, and one day they stop to matter, because there's nothing tangible to bring you back to them. But if a purchase is meaningful and not based on a whim, it continues to serve for years to come.

Often, the most meaningful memories will happen over texts, when texting a loved one and accidentally having a conversation that digs deep in both your psyches, and you'll both be grateful for the exploration. These memories, while not only costing nothing (aside from the internet bill), are often much more everlasting than spending money on a big trip.

Because, what if nothing happens on that big trip? What if nothing of value or emotional worth touches you emotionally? Well you just spent a lot of money climbing mount of Everest for it to fade when you're back home.
