That's the thing though, because it's a social construct instead of an actual fact, it's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing, it's a matter of knowing the truth.

To say that there's only the human race is just to reestablish normalcy, that we really shouldn't be falling prey to these social constructs, and instead act according to the truth. Not in the unsatisfactory way your friend seemed to use it in, but as a means of re-establishing the truth.
