It still leaves people wildly unnoticed. A lot of publications also only correct punctuation and grammar, but don't curate the content itself.

If a story is not picked up by a nominator or curator, then it is likelier to fall into oblivion and to have meant nothing.

If users can directly submit their stories, then the likelihood of getting noticed increases. Of course, I don't think it means working with publication editors should stop. Just that it should also be opened to everybody else.
