He knows what he's done, he knows the truth, the actual truth, that is, the reality of what he's done and of the impact he's had on you. There's no way to "have fun" if the other person is living a nightmare. He's just lying to himself through you about it to excuse himself out of any wrongdoings and out of guilt. Like you said, no one wants to feel like they've done something wrong, but unfortunately for him, he has.
