Again parents are people. It's a complete mistake to assume they're some wise all-knowing creatures, and again abusive parents are the least wise there is and the last type of people you'd want to listen to.

You must trust your own compass in life, and the feedback of others is only meant to go through your own internal filter to see what you can do with that feedback.
